An interesting isle – ARPUTHA THEEVU

Many of us would have heard the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in our childhood with all fun and fantasy. Director Vinayan brings the same kind of amusement on screen through his Arputha Theevu, not just with seven dwarfs, but with hundreds and hundreds of midgets across the length and breadth of the movie.
The success rate of remake movies has always been 50-50 in Tamil cinema. Some turns out to be blockbusters and the remaining end up as mere flop shows. However, Vinayan has made a balancing act in this partly remade Arputha Theevu by taking the audience in a roller-coaster ride. In addition, the director presents a sort of new genre called travelogue based adventure, which is quiet new to Kollywood.
Well, the story goes as follows: Vamanapuri is an island where men are short and women are of normal size as a result of a curse. Meanwhile, following a helicopter crash, Prithviraj and his counterparts comes to the isle where Princess Mallika Kapoor falls in love with Prithvi. With already attempts are being made by Pakhru to marry Mallika, the rest of the story forms on how Prithviraj saves the island people from their enemies and ties knot to his lady love.
Vinayan deserves full marks for making this daring film. On the performance side, Pakru, who plays prince Gajendran, is the real star and carries the film on his tiny shoulders. Prithviraj and Malaika Kapoor fit the bill. Manivannan, Karunas, Vaiyapuri and Kalpana ably support.
